My Memory Will Not Fail Me Now

It's easy to forget. Who we are, who God is, and what He's done. Things we've awed at, struggled through and realized. Leafing through some old poetry, I found I wrote a few years back when I was in Washington state. Because Nick and I are going to the ocean in about a week, I thought this would be appropriate....and God's loudest whisper to me lately has been "Remember." When life is overwhelming, and when my plans aren't working out, I need to remember those special moments I've gotten a glimpse of Him. In this case, through creation.

PACIFIC BEACH 7.14.02

My toes are clean from the
saltwater grains
And things the sea
brought into view

Here, silence is substance and
I am the one who's out of place
seeking with flashlights at midnight and
disturbing rills of sand dunes

Someplace "other" is where I'm from
Understanding of the sea comes slowly and
I know only "it is wild."

I claim to know no more
Smiling into the breeze is a pasttime

It warms me as the bonfire coals.
